There's a place for art

The obligatory introductory post

Since this is my first post, I would like to introduce myself to the world, or at least anyone who happens upon this blog.

For starters, I would like to note that this will likely be the only all-text entry I will make. I plan on devoting this blog to my artwork, and since I will begin taking courses to become a graphic designer in the fall, there will be plenty of material to post. In addition, my current sketch book is set up so that pages can be removed and added back again, and therefore I will probably post some stuff from there as well. My personal journal is located at http://geniusinmaine.livejournal.com, so if you want to learn about me outside my artwork, leave a comment on one of my public entries there and I’ll add you as a friend.

Now that that’s out of the way, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Chris, and my age changes every year (I was born in 1985, however). Right now, I live in Bangor, Maine. I presently attend the University of Maine at Orono, and have been since 2004. I spent the past four years in civil engineering, but after a recent bout with depression, I realized that if I would ever feel good about myself again, I would need to set my sights on a different career. Since I have always been interested in art and drawing (I actually had considered becoming a graphic designer while I was in high school, and looking back, that’s the path I should have taken all along), I decided to pursue a career in graphic design, and so here I am.

I happen to be a fan of baseball (especially the Boston Red Sox), hockey, Monty Python, Broadway shows and actors, and classic rock, and those have had some influence on the art I do on my own.
